League Expectations for Little League Parents
League Expectations for Little League Parents
As a parent, you play a critical role in the development and enjoyment of your child’s Little League experience. We ask that all parents follow these expectations to ensure a positive and supportive environment for all players, coaches, and volunteers.
1. Support Your Child’s Development
- Encourage Effort, Not Just Results: Focus on your child’s effort and improvement rather than wins and losses. Celebrate progress, no matter how small.
- Promote a Growth Mindset: Help your child understand that learning from mistakes is part of becoming a better player and teammate.
- Support Your Child’s Love of the Game: Make baseball fun! Avoid placing undue pressure on performance and let your child enjoy the game at their own pace.
2. Respect Coaches and Officials
- Trust the Coaches: Allow the coaches to coach. Avoid giving your child instructions that conflict with the coaches’ direction during games or practices.
- Show Respect for Umpires and Officials: Understand that umpires may make mistakes, just like players and coaches. Demonstrate good sportsmanship by showing respect for their decisions.
3. Be a Positive Role Model
- Exhibit Good Sportsmanship: Cheer for all players, not just your own. Show respect and courtesy to the opposing team and their fans.
- Avoid Negative Comments: Never yell at, criticize, or embarrass any player, coach, or umpire. Keep your comments positive and supportive.
- Be Encouraging After Games: Win or lose, let your child know you are proud of their effort. Focus on what they did well and what they can learn from.
4. Ensure Player Safety
- Prioritize Health: If your child is hurt or unwell, communicate with the coach and prioritize their health over playing in games or practices.
- Follow Equipment Guidelines: Make sure your child has the appropriate gear and that it fits properly to prevent injuries.
5. Get Involved and Volunteer
- Be an Active Participant: Volunteer when possible to assist with team duties, from scorekeeping to organizing events. Your involvement helps make the season a success for all.
- Support the League’s Mission: Remember that Little League is about more than just the games. It’s about teaching life lessons and promoting teamwork, character, and community.
6. Communicate Respectfully
- Be Open with Coaches: If you have concerns about your child’s experience, approach the coach respectfully at an appropriate time, outside of games or practices.
- Stay Informed: Keep up-to-date with schedules, team communications, and league announcements so you can be fully engaged with your child’s activities.
Thank you for your support and dedication to creating a positive and enriching environment for all Little League participants. Together, we can help build a strong community through baseball!
